Seek out the romance of a ruined city as you stroll around Nora – a rich archaeological site surrounded by the sea.
Enjoy a scenic drive through Cagliari, up to Monte Urpinu and along the south-western coast of Sardinia – the same route taken by thousands of pilgrims every year as they follow the Santo Efiso Cart. Look out for flamingos in the distance as you pass the Santa Gilla lagoon.
Built on a spit of land jutting out into the sea, the ancient city of Nora was founded under Carthaginian rule and later came under Roman control, so it’s a treasure trove of history. Admire the splendid mosaics and massive public bath system. Marvel at the theatre – almost intact after nearly 20 centuries. Visit the Punic Temple of Eshmun. Spot the 400-year-old Spanish watchtower that looks out over the water. It’s a site full of intrigue.
