Duration
5:45 Hours
Head to a charming island to uncover intriguing history and culture.
Relax on a panoramic drive around the beautiful town of Santa Pola and the nearby nature park, a tranquil area that is a designated Important Bird and Biodiversity Area.
A short ferry ride takes you to Tabarca – the only inhabited island on the Costa Blanca and a natural marine reserve. The fortified village of Tabarca dates back to the 18th-century reign of Carlos III and is famous for its prominent lighthouse, golden beaches and lip-smacking food.
The colourful past of the island belies its tiny size and your guide will share fascinating tales about the Barbary pirates who settled here following their shipwreck in 1760. Admire the fortress, protective walls and the church, and enjoy free time to stroll around at your leisure. You’ll also pause at a local restaurant to find out why Tabarca is famous for its food. Tuck into provincial delicacies, which may include Arroz a banda – a fish paella dish characterized by a unique, intense flavour.
