Setting off from the port, your drive will take you to Las Bóvedas - the ‘Dungeons’ - originally built to store provisions for the troops and now an artisan centre in the heart of ‘Old Cartagena’. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to browse the local handicraft stalls.
Afterwards, you’ll walk through the Plaza de Bolivar to view the statue of Simon Bolivar and enjoy a visit to the Inquisition Palace. This old modest palace was established in Cartagena in 1610 to punish any crimes against the Catholic faith. Here, you will see a sample jail and torture chamber and gain an insight into the darker side of punishment.
Next, you’ll have some free time into the old town to explore independently or browse for souvenirs.
