Colombia is a paradise for birds and a nature lover’s dream. In fact, no other country in the world has a higher diversity of birds than Colombia. A staggering 1,900 species of our feathered friends call this lush, green land home.

Your tour begins with a comfortable, air conditioned, scenic bus ride to nation’s newest tourism area, the pristine island of Baru, Cartagena. After just over an hour, you’ll arrive at Colombia’s National Aviary – one of the finest and most respected in the world, for its sheer diversity of species.

The Aviary is divided into habitat sections… tropical, coastline and mangroves, desert and Andean mountains. You’ll be able to photograph a breathtaking array of birds, including Macaws, Harpy Eagles, Tangaras, cormorants, pelicans, herons, storks, owls and even the mighty Andean Condor.You’ll be surrounded by abundant woodland, waterfalls and swaying palm trees.

On the way back to the Ship, you will have a photo-stop at San Felipe Fort (an impressive hilltop fort built by the Spanish in the 1600s).After some sightseeing in the old city of Cartagena, you’ll return to your ship.

Essential information

This excursion will operate by coach and on foot and involves approximately 1¾ hours’ of walking over uneven ground with some steps. Comfortable, flat, walking shoes are recommended.
