Venture up the enchanted Indian River on a wooden rowboat and retrace the steps of the Kalinago’s.
Start your adventure with glimpses of local life along Dominica’s west coast as you pass through the villages of Mahaut and Massacre, on your way to Portsmouth. Step aboard your wooden rowboat and get ready for a peaceful escape upriver through beautiful rainforests. Be entranced by the giant tree roots curling into the water. Look out for herons and hummingbirds. Hop out of the boat for a short rainforest stroll and a refreshing rum punch or soft drink.
Along the way, your guide will keep you entertained with tales of the river, the Carib Indians and the wildlife that lives all around you in this tranquil, green wonderland.

Essential information
The drive to the Indian River is around 1 hour. This tour involves limited walking, however guests must be able to negotiate steps onto and off the minibus. There are also steps to reach the boat embarkation area. A degree of agility is required when boarding. There is no shade from the sun on board the boats. The boat ride is approximately 1 hour in total. Please take a hat, sunscreen and insect repellent. Flat, non-slip shoes are recommended and a light rain jacket. Each of the wooden row boats can accommodate up to 15 passengers. Lifejackets must be worn.
