Experience the stunning sights, smells, colours and flavours of Funchal.
Admire many of the city’s most famous landmarks on a panoramic drive that takes you past the proud Monument of Autonomy, the 18th century City Hall and the whitewashed São Lourenço Palace. Pause for photos at a viewpoint with stunning vistas across town.
Get a feel for local life at the Mercado dos Lavradores (farmers’ market). Follow your guide and inhale the exotic aromas as you weave between stalls of tropical fruit, flowers and fresh fish. Be sure to taste some of the delectable produce and get a few photos of the sellers in their traditional dress.
Lose yourself in the beautiful Botanical Gardens, home to flora from all corners of the world. Stroll the paths that wind along terraces to the herbarium and greenhouses and admire the rare plants and flowers. And before you head back to your ship, take some photos of the fantastic views across Funchal.

Essential information
Guests will be given the option to accompany the guide around parts of the Botanical Gardens or explore alone. Areas of the gardens are steep in parts. Plants will be labelled in Portuguese and Latin. Please note that there are several steps and slopes to negotiate during the tour, as well as an uphill walk from the coach parking area to the entrance to the gardens. The visit to the gardens is approximately 1 hour in duration. The majority of stalls at the farmers market accept cash only. The lift to access the 1st floor of the farmers market is currently out of service.
