Hammerfest, Norway
low
2:00 Hours
After a short ride into town, the first stop on your walk is the Protestant Church, known for its eye-catching design inspired by northern Norway’s traditional fish-drying racks. It boasts an incredible stained-glass window and carved frieze depicting the town’s key historic moments, and the nearby historic cemetery chapel is the only building in town that survived WW2. At the Museum of Reconstruction, learn about Hammerfest’s journey from Neolithic settlers to WW2 devastation and reconstruction. Then stroll through the town square, past the harbour, to the Polar Bear Society, and hear tales of Arctic fishing and hunting, and thrilling polar expeditions.
