Cross the border into Italy and explore the diversity of Trieste, in your own time. Sitting at a convergence of cultures, the city is brimming with cultural and historical monuments. You’ll find Italian, Slovenian and Austro-Hungarian influences, as well as Roman ruins, medieval gems and neoclassical splendours. But the city is also a popular shopping destination, with excellent restaurants and cafés. Nearby, you’ll visit fairy-tale-like Miramare Castle, which was built on a cliff above the sea by Maximilian of the Habsburgs. You’ll meander around the magnificent gardens and have some free time to explore the lavish interior.
