In the historic Belém district, marvel at the Jeronimos Monastery, a magnificent example of Portugal’s own Manueline style of architecture. Admire the imposing Belém tower and the soul-stirring Monument to the Discoveries.

Cross the April 25th Suspension Bridge, one of the world’s longest suspension bridges, which connects the city of Lisbon to Almada, in the southern river bank. The bridge was built in 1966 and is often compared to the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, due to their similarities (they were also built by the same construction company). After a brief photo stop at Christ the King Statue, head to the city centre passing by the Marquês de Pombal statue, the man who rebuilt the city after Lisbon’s great earthquake in 1755.

Continue past  the charming boulevard of Liberty Avenue, lined with gardens and renowned for its unique black and white pavements. Stop at Restauradores Square, here, you can try the famous Ginginha, a sweet cherry liqueur, at one of the small traditional storefronts.
