Caminito Del Rey Trekking Adventure
Port
Malaga, Spain
Activity Level
high
Duration
7:00 Hours
This spectacular walkway offers a thrilling experience through the dramatic Gaitanes Gorge.
Before reaching the trail, you’ll stop for traditional tapas and a refreshing drink—an authentic taste of Andalusia to start your day.
Over a century old, the Caminito del Rey was originally built as a service path for workers constructing the railway and hydroelectric power station. Its name honours King Alfonso XIII, who famously walked part of the route during the inauguration of the reservoir.
Today, thanks to an impressive restoration, the path has become a must‑see attraction and a bucket‑list favourite. Around two‑thirds of the route winds gently through a peaceful valley, framed by towering cliffs and opening into breathtaking gorges at each end.
As you make your way along the wooden boardwalks suspended high above the river, you’ll discover the region’s unique flora and fauna, learn about the gorge’s geology, and hear stories of its discovery and its role in powering the region.
