Stroll through the charms of Ponta Delgada, and explore two enchanting Botanical Gardens.
Enjoy a leisurely guided walk through the centre of Ponta Delgada, a city well known for its churches. You’ll head to the celebrated Gothic-style Church of St Sebastian, which was built in 1547, and continue through the bustling streets, to visit the richly decorated 16th-century Convent and Chapel of Our Lady of Hope. Then hop onto a trolley train in the Jose Canto Botanical Garden and ride through the pleasant gardens and huge collection of trees. Afterwards, stretch your legs again in the Antonio Borges Botanical Garden, a tranquil paradise filled with native species, mysterious caves and glistening ponds.
Essential information
This excursion will operate by trolley train and on foot and involves around 2 hours of walking which includes some cobblestoned surfaces and steps. There are also gravel surfaces at the gardens. Flat, non-slip walking shoes are advised. Modest attire is required when entering churches. Services may be held without notice which may prevent an inside visit.
