Travel south, towards the Serra do Cumea viewpoint with its wooden platform that juts out over the valley with its patchwork of green pastures separated by black volcanic stone. Pass the dramatic Guilherme Moniz Cauldron volcanic crater, heading upwards towards Monte Brasil for further views of this extinct volcano. Move on to the Azores’ oldest city and historical capital, Angra do Heroísmo. Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is rich in romance and picture-book scenery. Explore its winding cobbled streets lined with townhouses and admire the well-kept gardens, squares and monuments.
