Scenic Lustrafjord
Skjolden, Norway
moderate
3:30 Hours
Embark on a picturesque drive south along Lustrafjord, the innermost branch of Sognefjord (Norway’s largest fjord). The landscape is breathtaking as the road shadows the pretty fjord winding its way through rugged mountains and past idyllic little villages. En route a stop will be made at Feigum to take photos of the impressive 715 foot cascading Feigum Waterfall.
On arrival in Urnes, you’ll visit the oldest stave church in Norway. The UNESCO World Heritage listed Urnes Stave Church, built around 1130, has a traditional wooden exterior but the interior is a surprisingly eclectic mix of décor. The elaborate designs are executed with supreme artistic skill and are among the most distinctive works of art to be found in Norway.
After visiting the church, there will be time to browse through the nearby little shop selling locally produced farm products, before boarding the ferry for a 20 minute picturesque fjord crossing to the sleepy Victorian village of Solvorn.
From Solvorn, you’ll head north through picturesque scenery back to Skjolden. Along the way there will be photo stops at the pretty villages of Gaupne and Luster.
