When the first Dutch settlers arrived on St Maarten in 1631, they chose the sandy strip separating Great Bay from Great Salt Pond to build their capital, Philipsburg. Originally starting on the west end at the foot of Fort Amsterdam, the settlement has spread gradually east, to where your ship will be moored.
You’ll step back in time on this interactive exploration of Philipsburg by trolley train.Sit back and relax, while we show you all the sites, before you pass by the Great Salt Pond, the largest permanent saline lagoon saltwater pond on the island.Drive down the bustling front street where you’ll have 30 minutes of free time to shop for souvenirs. Admire the gingerbread house architecture of Walter Plantz Square and Wathey Square, before we pass by to pick you up to take you back to ship.

Essential information

This excursion will operate by trolley train and on foot.We regret to advise that the trolley train is unable to accommodate wheelchairs. There is a weight limit of 14½ stone on this tour. guests must be able to negotiate the step on to and off the trolley train. Guests who wish to stay in Phillipsburg after the tour are responsible for making their own way back to the ship.
