Stretching for almost 3.5 kilometres and rising up to 11-metres high, the walls of this UNESCO listed Hanseatic town encircle old stone houses, churches and an entire street system. Get a glimpse of the town’s terracotta rooftops and the 13^th-century St Mary’s Cathedral. Stop at Almedalen and see the protection provided for enemies approaching from the sea. And make your way to Galgberget, or Gallows Hill, for spectacular panoramas of the sea and outskirts of Visby. This cliff top is also the site of Europe’s only preserved, medieval execution site.
