Free Time in La Grave
Take a scenic drive along the Havre aux Basque road while your guide points out the sights and gives you a history of the islands. Cross to the Havre Aubert Islands via the Havre aux Basques - a 15km road which was built on a sand dune in 1956 with the sea on both sides, arriving in La Grave, where you’ll have around 2 hours to explore at your own leisure.
The first Acadians to arrive on the Islands settled on Havre Aubert Island and its most interesting attraction is without a doubt La Grave. Designated as a historic site by the Minister of Cultural Affairs in 1983, La Grave still showcases traditional architecture and is a favourite spot for fishing, commerce and meeting. The pretty little buildings house around fifteen boutiques selling local arts and crafts and a café where you can enjoy lunch or relax with a coffee. You may choose to visit the Sea Museum (your entrance fee is included), or drop by the Artisans du Sable, a unique studio, where sand from the islands is transformed into unique sculptures.
At the designated meeting point and time, you’ll rejoin your coach for the return drive.
