The weather in the Norwegian Fjords can be quite changeable – the Norwegians even have a saying: “There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes.” We’d recommend planning for all weather; tops, jumpers, coats and maybe an umbrella!

During the summer, you could also bring t-shirts, shorts, jeans and perhaps a light jacket and definitely some walking shoes so that you can explore all the magical sights.

Depending on the dress code on board, you have two choices of what to pack for the evenings. Nights where the dress code is Evening Casual, you can pack your best shirts, dresses and smart, dark denim. For nights where the dress code is Black Tie, make sure to pack your best tux, suit or cocktail dress.

There are some venues on each cruise ship where dress codes don’t apply, so make sure to check your Horizon paper that’s delivered to your cabin each day to check where these are, as they vary ship by ship. For those travelling on family-friendly ships, dress codes also don’t apply to children aged 17 and under.&nbsp;

Usually on a cruise from Southampton, you have at least one full day at sea before you arrive at your first destination, although there are exceptions. We offer a day-by-day view of each of our holidays, so you can check how soon you'll arrive at any destination on your cruise before you even book.

How long does it take to get from Southampton to the first destination? 

All of Southampton's cruise terminals are centrally located and easily accessible from major UK cities by rail, road and air. Taxis, including Uber, can drop off and pick up from each cruise terminal, and Southampton Central Railway Station is also just a short taxi transfer away. If you choose our Select Price when booking, you'll have the option of choosing a free return coach transfer to Southampton or free parking at your cruise terminal, both of which need pre-booking in advance. Southampton Airport is also connected to the city centre by direct train and bus, so it's easy to reach the cruise terminals if you're flying into Southampton to meet your P&amp;O Cruises ship too.
