What is an ATOL certificate and how do I get one?

What is ATOL protection?
The Air Travel Organisers’ Licensing (ATOL) is a financial protection scheme for package holidays. It ensures you get a refund if a company ceases trading before you travel, or that you can continue and finish your holiday if it happens while you're away. It's essential to book ATOL-protected holidays for peace of mind.
How does ATOL work with P&O Cruises?
The ATOL scheme financially protects our fly-cruise holiday guests. Our ATOL number is 6294. ATOL protection does not apply to all holiday and travel services.
Please note that ABTA – the trade association for UK travel agents, tour operators and the wider travel industry - protects all other P&O Cruises holidays. For more information about ABTA and ATOL, click here.
How do I know if I am protected?
An ATOL certificate is usually sent along with your booking confirmation at the time of booking. It lists the financially protected services, such as flights, accommodation and car hire. Please ensure that everything you’ve booked (flights, hotels and other services) is listed on the ATOL certificate.
What if I've not received my ATOL certificate?
When you book a P&O Cruises fly-cruise, you’ll be supplied with an ATOL Certificate. If you have not been provided with one, please get in touch with us. We can check to see if you are eligible for one and confirm what protection may apply to your booking.
What if parts are missing from my ATOL certificate?
If you’ve received an ATOL certificate but not all the parts of your trip are listed, those parts will not be ATOL protected. Please see our booking conditions for further information. For more information about financial protection and the ATOL certificate, go to ATOL certificates | Civil Aviation Authority (caa.co.uk).
