What is a Balcony cabin?
A Balcony cabin is one of the accommodation types on board your P&O Cruises ship. It’s ideal if you like feeling the sea breeze and enjoying your private outdoor space. Your balcony is the perfect place to savour a lazy continental breakfast or spend a few peaceful hours sunbathing with a book.
Depending on the ship, the following types of cabins have a balcony:
- Single Balcony cabins
- Smaller Balcony cabins
- Standard Balcony cabins
- Standard Balcony cabins with Sofa
- Deluxe Balcony cabins
- Deluxe Balcony cabins with Sofa
- Superior Deluxe Balcony cabins
- Obstructed view Balcony cabins
- Obstructed view Balcony cabins with Sofa
Please note: some Standard Balcony cabins on Azura and Ventura have a part-obstructed view. For more details, view ‘Are there any balconies with obstructed views?’ below.
The following types of Suites have a balcony:
- Mini-suites
- Conservatory Mini-suites
- Suites
- Penthouse Suites
- Family Suites on Azura and Ventura
Please note: the Family Suites on Arvia and Iona don’t have a balcony.
How do I choose a Balcony cabin?
During booking, you’ll be presented with all available cabin types on your chosen ship; simply pick what’s best for you.
You can find out which type of balcony cabins are on a ship, and locate the exact Balcony cabin you wish to book by looking at the deck plans of each ship. You’ll find deck plans on the following links:
What to consider when choosing your Balcony cabin
When locating the right Balcony cabin for your P&O Cruises holiday, here are some points to bear in mind.
Which balconies are shaded or partly shaded?
Due to the shape of our ships, some Balcony cabins become partially or completely shaded. Please view our deck plan and the cabin notes for each ship to see exactly which cabins this affects.
Are balconies visible to other guests?
Again, the ship's shape means that some of our cabins have a balcony that’s visible from above, as well as from neighbouring balconies and/or the Promenade deck. Please view our deck plan and cabin notes for each ship to see exactly which cabins this affects.
Are there any balconies with restricted access?
Due to high winds, some of our Balcony cabins have restricted access. Please view our deck plan and the cabin notes for each ship to see exactly which cabins this affects.
Are there any balconies with obstructed views?
On Britannia, some of our Balcony cabins have obstructed views due to the ship’s shape. Please view our deck plan for Britannia to see exactly which cabins this affects. Within the deck plans on Britannia, you’ll see that the following cabin types are affected:
- Obstructed view with Sofa: cabin grades IB, IC and IE on Deck G
- Obstructed view: cabin grades JB, JC and JE on Deck G
On Azura and Ventura, some of our Standard Balcony cabins also have part obstructed views. When locating Standard Balcony cabins with a part obstructed view, please review the cabin notes within the deck plans.
Additional information on Balcony cabins
How large are Balcony cabins?
Our Balcony cabins range between approximately 142 and 279 square feet (including the balcony).
How high are the railings on Balcony cabins?
The railings are approximately 110cm high.
How many guests do Balcony cabins accommodate?
Our Balcony cabins are for up to four people.
Are balconies interconnected?
Most balconies are interconnecting. The doors between cabin balconies will always be locked when you first board, so please speak to your cabin steward if you would like the door to remain open for the duration of your holiday. There may be some instances where this isn’t possible. Your cabin steward will be able to confirm this for you.
Please be aware that we also have interconnected cabins. This is where you’ll find an interconnecting door in the cabin itself, not just on the balcony. For information on interconnected cabins, please see our article ‘Do you have interconnecting cabins?’.
Do the doors to balconies lock?
The balcony doors on Arvia, Azura, Britannia, Iona and Ventura have locks. Arcadia and Aurora don’t have locks but can be securely closed by pulling the handle up.
For more information about Balcony cabins, please see our Balcony cabins page.
