Approximately 4.00 hours.
Venture into the ‘homeland of Viking kings’ through Haugesund, before crossing the Karmsund Bridge that links Karmøy island to the mainland. Visit the 13th-century St Olav's Church, and look tentatively at the monumental stone – Virgin Mary's Sewing Needle – standing over seven metres tall and leaning towards the church walls. Legend tells us that doomsday will come when they touch! At the Nordvegen History Centre, hear of the princes and kings who ruled Avaldsnes for over 3,000 years and visit the Viking Farm on scenic Bukkøy island, which shows how ordinary farmers, who were the backbone of Viking society, lived.
