Shore experiences

All shore experiences booked on My P&O Cruises  must be paid for at the time of booking. You can do this with a valid credit or debit card. You can also book your shore experiences once you are on board. These will be charged to your on-board account, which you settle at the end of your holiday. As on-board spending money is deducted from your final on-board account balance, you are effectively using it to pay for your shore experiences.

Please keep in mind that your preferred shore experiences may no longer be available once you get on board, and that the cost will be at least 10% higher than if you booked them in advance on My P&O Cruises*.

There is a wide range of shore experiences available in each destination. Prices start from £15 per person. All shore experiences are priced in pounds and there are no hidden extras, ever! Prices differ depending on the destination but, rest assured, there's an experience for every interest and every budget.

We can offer a full refund up to three days before your holiday departure, or up to 48 hours before your scheduled shore experience once on board. A 10% cancellation fee will be applied to your on-board account, and the full amount paid will be refunded to your original credit or debit card.

Shore experiences can take from 1 hour to 8 hours, depending on the activity, with most being 4 hours on average. The duration for each shore experience will be noted in the Tour Description via My P&O Cruises.

And remember, if your shore experience overruns, we’ll ensure your ship won't depart without you.

The time the ship will be in port varies by cruise and destination. Check your itinerary to see if the port call will be a half day, a full day, an evening, two full days or a combination of these. Half-day calls are usually a minimum of five hours and a maximum of seven hours, with full days being a minimum of seven and a half hours and a maximum of 11 hours. 

Evening calls follow a full day in port and the ship will typically depart after 9pm. During two full days, you can enjoy a minimum of 32 hours and a maximum of 40 hours in your destination.

Please note that the timings given above are based on the ship's arrival and departure times, not the length of time you will have ashore. Remember, these timings are merely guidelines. Naturally, we’ll keep you regularly updated with arrival and departure times while you are on board.

Yes, we do! That said some off ship trips do have a minimum age requirement. This will always be explained in the tour description or made known to you when you book.

And good news if you have ‘little’ little ones! Where there's no minimum age requirement, shore experiences are free for infants aged 0–23 months. However, you'll still need to book a place for them.

Infants aged 2 and under (on the date of sailing) may join on the excursion free of charge, but they will need to be seated on your lap. Please note, there may be occasions when this is not possible. We’ll make sure this is explained clearly on the shore experience description.

Child prices are charged for ages 2 to 12. Children over the age of 12 will need to be booked on the shore experience as an adult

Note that all children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult on shore experiences.

Yes, we recommend that you always have travel insurance for your entire cruise holiday. And please do check beforehand that your chosen shore experiences are covered by it.

If a shore experience is showing as fully booked on My P&O Cruises, once you get on board you can inquire at our shore experiences desk and ask to be called by a member of the team if spaces becomes available. You may also opt to book an alternative available experience in the event that no spaces become available. 

If time and logistics allow, why not? But we do recommend that you leave 45 minutes to one hour between shore experiences. Please note, however, that if, for any reason, your first shore experience ends later than scheduled and you're too late to join the second shore experience, you won't be refunded for it. This is because the operator has allowed for a certain number of guests; information the ship gives them 48 hours prior to arrival.

Remember, shore experience parties can be late back for many reasons, with traffic congestion being the main one. In some destinations, immigration may also ask to see your passport or proof of your shore experience booking, and this can also lead to delays.

Yes, you can. Once on board, you’ll need to cancel before the cancellation deadline (generally 48 hours prior to the ship's arrival in port). A 10% cancellation fee will be applied to your on-board account, and the full amount paid will be refunded to your original credit or debit card.

Some shore experiences begin on a coach or minibus which will take you from the port to the experience location. Walking experiences, as you’d expect, are often just on foot. If you want to be sure, though, please check the Tour Description via My P&O Cruises.
