Which cabin is right for me?
Ensuring you get a cabin you’re happy with is important when booking a cruise. When selecting a cabin, it’s essential to consider both the cabin type and its location on the ship.

Cabin facilities and amenities
Each type of cabin has different facilities and amenities. Find out more here.
Which cabins are best for solo travellers?
We have a range of accommodation options for you to choose from as a solo traveller. In every cabin, you’ll have a comfortable bed for the perfect night’s sleep after a long day exploring, plenty of space to store your belongings and your own en-suite bathroom. Depending on your cruise and the ship, our single rooms are available as Inside, Sea view and Balcony cabins.
If you'd like more space, we can offer bigger rooms with king-sized beds and a sea view or balcony. Double roomed cabin will cost the full amount even if it's just one person staying in it. Also, in some of our rooms, such as Mini-suites and Suites, there’s a little more luxury: a spacious lounge area, complimentary Champagne and chocolates on arrival, butler service, a bathrobe and slippers, and a whirlpool bath to relax in – plenty of space and little touches to make your solo cruise holiday even more special.
Which cabins are best for families?
The best cabins for families are those that offer a little more space. These are:
Inside cabins (Larger)
- Larger Inside cabins can be found on all family-friendly ships (Arvia, Azura, Iona, Britannia, Ventura)
Sea view cabins
- Sea view cabins can be found on all family-friendly ships (Arvia, Azura, Iona, Britannia, Ventura)
Balcony cabins
- Superior Deluxe can be found on Azura, Britannia, Ventura
- Deluxe with Sofa can be found on Arvia, Iona
Suites
- Suites can be found on all ships. Check out the ones on our family-friendly ships (Arvia, Azura, Iona, Britannia, Ventura)
- Family Suites are available on Azura and Ventura
- Family Sea view Suites are exclusive to Arvia and Iona
- Mini-suites are available on Arcadia and Aurora
- Conservatory Mini-suites are exclusive to Arvia and Iona
All our cabins and suites can accommodate families of up to four guests. The additional beds are sofa beds or upper pull-down beds. How your cabin accommodates the extra guests depends on your ship and the cabin grades you book. For example, when booking an Inside or a Sea view cabin, the additional beds are usually upper pull-down beds; for Balcony cabins and Mini-suites, the extra beds are usually sofa beds. Please note that Iona and Arvia have sofa beds in all their cabins with one upper pull-down bed over the sofa.
When cabins have upper pull-down beds, the lower beds must always be set up as twin beds. This is for health and safety reasons. Cabin stewards fold these upper beds against the wall during the day, and they make the cabin up every day throughout your holiday.
Top tip: find out more about each cabin grade here. This will allow you to locate the exact cabin location on your chosen ship.
Families of five or more
Families of five or more will need two cabins. Children under 16 can’t stay in their own cabins, so you must choose cabins with interconnecting doors between them. With interconnecting cabins, you’ll need two of the same cabin type, such as two Inside cabins, two Sea view cabins or two Balcony cabins. Some Suites connect to Inside cabins, which can be a good option for families with three or more children or those cruising with grandparents.
Find out more in our articles ‘How to link multiple cabins’ and ‘How to add multiple cabins of different sizes when booking’.
Families with younger children
For families with younger children who don't like the thought of their little one being in an upper pull-down bed, a travel cot or rail bed guards can be requested once you’ve made your booking – both are free of charge. Your cabin steward can fold away the travel cot during the day.
Which cabins are best for large groups?
Each cabin and suite can accommodate up to four guests. For large groups, we recommend booking multiple cabins. You can book up to three cabins in a single booking on our website. You will see the ‘Add another cabin’ option on the Booking Summary page when booking online. To find out more, click here.
If you wish to select more than three cabins in one booking, please get in touch with our friendly Customer Contact Centre.
We can offer a cruise holiday deal for groups of 16 or more guests. Please contact us or find out more about large group travel here.

Choosing your cabin location and cabin allocation
When you book a P&O Cruises Select Price holiday, you can choose the exact location of your cabin, subject to availability. Select Price has several other benefits, too. For more information about Select Price, click here.
If you haven’t booked a Select Price holiday, or you don’t wish to choose the location of your cabin, we’ll allocate a cabin to you. Most cabin allocations are typically done at least two weeks before sailing but can occur right up to the day of departure. Don’t worry if you can’t see this on your booking; please arrive at the terminal as planned on your embarkation day.
Please note that there are different grades within each cabin type. You can find out more about cabin grades here. Once you’ve selected the type and grade of cabin that best suits your needs, you can choose its exact location on your ship’s deck plan:
- Arcadia deck plans
- Arvia deck plans
- Aurora deck plans
- Azura deck plans
- Britannia deck plans
- Iona deck plans
- Ventura deck plans
For a step-by-step guide, view our article ‘How to choose a cabin in a specific location of the ship’.
Considerations when choosing cabin location
Best cabin location for views
Choose a Sea view or Balcony cabin without any obstructions. Forward and aft sections are ideal for witnessing the stunning views of each port as you dock or the endless ocean views behind you. Forward cabins are in the front area of the ship. Please note that forward cabins may experience some movement, particularly during turns. Aft cabins are at the back of the ship. Bear in mind that the back of the ship can be close to a thruster noise.
Best cabin location for reduced motion
Choosing a cabin in the middle of the ship on one of the lower decks is often where you feel less motion.
Best cabin location to be close to the action
Cabins near lifts, stairwells or other high-traffic areas may experience more noise and foot traffic. Cabins directly above or below entertainment venues, lounges or nightclubs may also experience more noise and foot traffic, especially during performances or late-night events.
Best cabin location for a quieter location
If you're looking for a quieter location with less movement, the best deck is lower on the ship, with a centrally located cabin to minimise the ship’s motion. These cabins are away from high-traffic areas, so you’ll also experience less noise and disturbance during restful hours. You may also want to avoid cabins near crew quarters or service areas, cabins close to maintenance rooms, or areas with machinery or cabins near public restrooms.
By carefully considering cabin type, location, and personal preferences, you can select a cabin that enhances your overall cruise experience and ensures a comfortable and enjoyable holiday.
