Greatest Days: behind the scenes

It’s hard to believe it’s been more than four years since Britannia’s naming ceremony in 2015, where hundreds of excited guests looked on as Her Majesty The Queen officially named our flagship. But that spectacular day was just the beginning: since then, Britannia has sailed to some of the world’s most beautiful destinations and brought guests unforgettable holiday experiences, on board and on shore.
Now it’s time for Britannia to enter her next chapter. She’s recently returned from the Damen shipyard in Brest, France, where she’s undergone her first refit. Her diverse range of bars and restaurants, premium entertainment and exceptional crew are among the stand-out features you love, and with this refit, we’ve listened to your feedback to ensure she continues to exceed your expectations.
So what’s new on board Britannia? Here’s a sneak peek at some of the key highlights of the refit.
The atrium has been given a new lease of life to create a lively social hub at the heart of the ship, by day and night. Get ready for a new vibe in this dramatic space: think eye-catching colour schemes and a fresh design direction, relaxed entertainment and a lively scene with music and informal performances under the sparkling Star Burst chandelier. Following the success of temporary art exhibitions on Britannia, we’ve introduced a permanent new art gallery next to Blue Bar by the atrium. Complete the experience by savouring some exquisite treats at the Market Café. The popular spot has already benefited from new furniture and décor, and a brand-new menu including decadent ice-cream creations from Hampshire dairy Jude’s.
Java café now serves alcoholic drinks. Situated opposite The Glass House, it’s an ideal spot to sip a cool beer while enjoying a bird’s-eye view of the action down below.
Just down the corridor from Java, The Photo Gallery has had some TLC, including the welcome addition of a Dixons electronics hub featuring the latest imaging, computing and audio tech from Amazon, Apple, Beats, Bose, Canon, Fitbit, GoPro, Microsoft and Sony, among others. It’s the place to help you keep your finger on the pulse, whether you want to track your workouts in the on-board gym or shoot action movies on shore.
We’ve upped the shopping ante to give you more choice and a more immersive experience. Expect a host of new premium brands to choose from and a more interactive environment, including try-before-you-buy tasting tables and consultation areas in our beauty and make-up zones. Luxurious treats await you with Jo Malone, Tom Ford, Edinburgh Gin, Michael Kors accessories and exclusive fine jewellers Clifton joining our line-up.
We know relaxation is high on your holiday agenda, so we’ve given you even more reasons to check into Oasis Spa and Salon. We’ve created two ‘express spa’ pods boasting a range of treatments – ideal for fitting a wellbeing boost into your day’s schedule. In one pod, you can enjoy high-tech massages; in the other, a zero-gravity lounger offers express skin treatments as well as LVL lash treatments. For longer, deeper relaxation, you’ll love our relaxing new experience in the thermal and hydropool suite. Let everyday stresses ease away in the new aroma steam room.
With Britannia’s enhanced elegance and fresh sense of purpose, you’ll see the world just the way you like it, in even greater luxury and style.
