Is it fair to say that a lot of us just don’t tend to appreciate our own cultural highlights or explore the local surroundings at home? Are we guilty of taking for granted or underestimating our own treasures? Southampton, we often read is “sandwiched between the beautiful New Forest and the historic city of Winchester”, or “just beside Portsmouth and its historic dockyard” or “across from the Isle of Wight”. Take some time to see this south coast stunner and you’ll be pleasantly surprised!
In this well-connected waterfront city you can shop til you drop and satisfy any food cravings at hundreds of places to eat with cuisine from all over the world. From axe-throwing pubs, baseball bars and escape rooms to the RMS Titanic exhibition in the Sea City Museum, you can have a lot of fun here at any age. There’s contemporary British art to see and medieval walls to walk in the Old Town. For football fans, St Mary’s Stadium stands near the water’s edge and the Utilita Bowl is home to many an international cricket match and live music show (there are lots of other music venues too).
So be sure to tick it off your list of great British locations if you can make some time around your cruise to explore.
