It's often said that the best way to experience a Norwegian fjords holiday is by sea. We, of course, agree.

Top things to do in the Norwegian fjords

Ride the Flåm Railway

The Flåm Railway is an amazing way to see the sights. You can sit back and relax as your train takes you 867 metres high, winding its way through the lush valleys and the old Flåm village and church. Flåm is a beautiful town filled with breathtaking waterfalls, fairy-tale forests and stoic mountains and is perfect for those who love exploring.

Kayak through the fjords in Geirangerfjord

You can connect with the wildnerness in a fun and relaxing way as you explore the waters of Geirangerfjord – one of Mother Nature’s masterpieces. This picturesque town is filled with crashing waterfalls and tiny farms clinging to the emerald hillsides. Plus, if you want to tick the famous Seven Sisters waterfall off your bucket list, this is the place for you!

Chase the Northern Lights in Tromsø

Wrap up warm and set out in search of the ethereal Northern Lights. Your guides will take you out into the wilderness where you might be lucky enough to witness this incredible natural phenomenon and you can even stop to nibble on treats and warm up with hot chocolate too!

Explore the city of Stavanger

From its elegant period streets to its striking Atlantic coastline, Stavanger is an incredibly picturesque city. Explore the Old Town, which is full of winding lanes and Scandinavian architecture. The blend of its peaceful port-city charm and lively café/bar scene makes Stavanger an exciting city to explore.

Enchanting mountainscapes are just waiting to be sailed through...

Come face to face with Briksdal Glacier in Olden

Embark on an enchanting walk before you arrive at the viewpoint near Briksdal Glacier, which flows 4,000 feet down the mountainside into the Briksdal Valley. Marvel at this natural wonder as it glows before you and take plenty of photos, then walk back to the inn for coffee and cake.

Hike to Langfoss Waterfall in Haugesund

With a drop of more than 2,000 feet, this stunning landmark is considered one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Norway. Behold the stunning views all around as you snap away for your holiday album. Haugesund is perfect if you want a bit of exercise (and lots of pictures) as well as a souvenir or two to take home with you.

Take the Loen Skylift in Nordfjordeid

Ride the Loen Skylift cable car up to the peak of Mount Hoven, over 3,300 feet above sea level. Soak up the jaw-dropping scenery of Lake Lovatnet, Mount Skåla and the sparkling Nordfjord. Nordfjordeid features rustic cobbled streets lined with charming houses as well as the incredible sights that can be witnessed from the Skylift, so it's definitely good if you enjoy your photography.

Visit the Sunnmøre Museum in Ålesund

Step back through time at this open-air museum, home to around 55 well-preserved buildings, houses and boats from Ålesund's medieval times to the present-day. Ålesund is a charming Norwegian seaside town, filled with Art Nouveau architecture and stone-cobbled streets. The town has played a part in some of the most seismic events in history and is now a beautiful tourist destination.

There's plenty to do, whether you decide to explore ashore by yourself or pay a little extra for a shore experience.
