If you like a good walk, you’ll love this experience. Set off with a local guide and head up the Sierra Grossa, a craggy mountain that separates the centre of Alicante from the coastal districts of Albufera and Cabo de la Huerta.
Having served humans in various ways since as far back as the bronze age, there are numerous points of interest on the mountain, which your guide will tell you all about, including the site of a concentration camp from the Spanish Civil War.
Reaching the summit, just over 500 feet above the sparkling Mediterranean Sea, you’ll be rewarded with spectacular vistas of the city and the surrounding area. Capture postcard-worthy pictures of your ship in the harbour before you head back down and, if you’re feeling peckish, stop off in town to treat yourself to tapas and drinks.
