Experience a unique, aerial adventure to witness the awesome beauty of the active Montserrat volcano – from the comfort of a state-of-the-art helicopter.
As you lift off to begin your aerial journey, you’ll soar over your docked ship and skim across the sparkling turquoise water to Montserrat. Fully narrated by your experienced pilot, you’ll soon be zooming over the island’s lush, untouched hills.
You’ll fly over the Montserrat ‘Exclusion Zone’, an off-limits are that few ever get to see. Then, at its centre, you’ll see the awe-inspiring Soufrière Hills Volcano. Frequently spewing a combination of ash, smoke and steam, and rising to over 900 metres, it dominates the island.
A major eruption in 1997 made two-thirds of the island uninhabitable and you’ll see the massive destruction first hand. You’ll fly over evacuated villages, what was the WH Bramble Airport, and the charred remains of the former capital, Plymouth – now partially buried under more than 12 metres of ash.
On your return flight keep an eye out for the marine life. Sea turtles are most common, but humpback and sperm whales can also be spotted!
