The origins of the hilltop town of Martina Franca date back to the 1300’s. Enjoy the sights as you stroll past the white houses, sculpted iron balconies, narrow alleyways and quaint squares that characterise this beautiful town. Take in the baroque Porta Sant’Antonio, Piazza 20th Settembre, and admire the wonderful Palazzo Ducale.
The whitewashed walls and pointed grey roofs are the unmistakable symbol of Alberobello, town of the ‘trulli’. Learn the origin of the dwarf-like houses, which dominate the hillside like a field of mushrooms. The twee ‘trulli’ houses were commissioned by the Count of Conversano in the 17th century as part of a tax evasion. After your guided tour, you’ll have some free time to wander the twisted cobbled streets of this ‘trulli’ charming village and see for yourself why it has been honoured as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
