A Glimpse of Saltstraumen

Sit back and relax as you enjoy a scenic drive to incredible Saltstraumen – the world’s strongest tidal current. Along the way, take in the attractions of Bodø and its beautiful surroundings, while getting all the details needed for your self-guided visit. Then head down to the water’s edge and watch in awe as up to 400 million cubic metres of seawater rushes through the narrow channel, which measures three kilometres long and 1.5 kilometres wide. Occurring every six hours, the water reaches speeds up to 25 mph, creating swirling whirlpools (or maelstroms) up to 10 metres across and five metres deep.
