Your tour begins with a short ride to the dock where your harbour boat awaits. You'll enjoy a scenic cruise through the Inner Bay for nearly an hour, as your guide points out fortifications best seen from the water. At the opening of the 17th century the Spanish Crown hired prominent European military engineers to carry out the construction of its defenses. This massive undertaking took over 200 years to complete and resulted in 7 miles of walls that surround the city, the Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas (San Felipe Fortress), has fortifications on every point.

At the end of the harbour cruise you will dock next to the Old City and walk within the city walls to Plaza Bolivar and Plaza San Pedro. Free time will be given for shopping for souvenirs. Afterwards, you will continue to Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas for a contrasting view of Cartagena from the land side, and a guided tour of this formidable castle. Upon arriving at the fortress, you'll quickly see why Cartagena was the impregnable city of the Spanish Main. This 17th-century fortress is the largest of its kind in the New World and is an outstanding example of Spanish military engineering.

Your tour concludes with a walk back to your transportation, and a relaxing drive back to the pier.
