The Clément Plantation, a former sugar plantation, is the perfect spot to explore Martinique’s artists and delve into the island’s industrial heritage. As an artistic foundation, it exhibits local artists’ work in both its gallery, and in its open-air contemporary gallery, nestled in a 16-acre botanical garden.
There’s a magnificent 18th-century Creole house, fantastic outbuildings and an old rum distillery that brings the island’s industrial history to life. You’ll get a look at the ‘aging cellars’ still used today for slowly aging rum, and of course, raise a glass at a rum tasting.
