From its beginnings as a tiny fishing port, the city of Ferrol has been closely linked to the sea, being a major naval shipbuilding centre for most of its history.

It was during the 16th Century when the harbour first began to be frequented by ships of the Royal Navy. With the arrival of the Bourbons in the 18th Century, Ferrol became a leading maritime centre and main support base for warships and naval facilities in the north of Spain. Nowadays, the militar “El Arsenal" is the most emblematic place in Ferrol, and has been recently recommended to be declared a World Heritage Site.
Journey by trolley train to "El Arsenal" where upon arrival, a guided visit on foot will show you the Dock Gate, "Sala de Armas" building and ancient batteries, the Campá dam, and the interesting Naval Contsruction Museum (Exponav), which houses an exhibition devoted to naval construction, technology and history. You’ll see for yourself how the military architecture coexists perfectly with the traditional white glazed galleries that brighten up the streets of the Old Town of Ferrol.

Re-board your trolley train and head to the Parador of Ferrol for a well-deserved coffee break.Located in the heart of the town and overlooking the sea, this former manor house offers wonderful views.Sit back and relax with refreshments, before your trolley train ride back to the quayside.
