A Walk Through the Old Town
Join your knowledgeable guide on a walking tour of Ibiza Town and discover the history and charm of the largest and most beautiful town on the island.
D’Alt Vila, officially declared a World Heritage site in 1999, was founded by the Phoenicians in 600 B.C.During a brief stop you’ll see how the structure of the ancient walled fortress has grown around the original castle and evolved according to the city’s defence needs.
Continue walking through the Old Town, winding your way over the cobblestoned streets that have been smoothly polished by the feet of centuries of walkers. Passing the Cathedral, capture the mixture of architectural styles (gothic and baroque), which demonstrate the eras of both construction and restoration. You’ll also see the 16th Century Church of Santo Domingo and the statue of Isidor Macabich, the famous Ibizian poet.
As you arrive at the bottom of the town you’ll enter an ancient cobblestoned courtyard, bringing you out onto the main square, Placa de Vila. Here you’ll find the Portal de ses Taules, a dramatic drawbridge and the entrance to the ancient city.
