Drive through the dramatic mountains of the Westfjords to Dynjandi. As soon as you set eyes on the eponymous wonder of nature here, you’ll realise why Icelanders consider it one of, if not the most, beautiful of the country’s 10,000-plus waterfalls.

Dynjandi means ‘thunderous’ or ‘booming’, which comes as little surprise when you watch and listen to the raging water crashing violently down the upper terraces before free-falling into the pool below. Every inch of the combined 330-foot drop is mesmerising.

You’ve seen the water, now taste it as you get to know the locals in the tiny fishing village, Suðureyri, and sample the delicacies they source from the sea. Stroll through the pretty village and try dried fish, traditional Fiskibollur and salmon.

As well as tasting more seafood in Suðureyri, you’ll take a break during the day to enjoy a sandwich.
