Stroll around a pretty oasis at Skrúður Gardens. Founded in 1909, this is Iceland’s oldest botanical garden and home to a dazzling collection of flora that you might be surprised to see so far north.
As your local guide shows you around, find out how Flateyri was formed around the shark-fishing industry in the mid-19th century. Visiting the intimate church, you’ll be treated to some atmospheric music.
Wander down the main street and look inside the old bookstore and merchant’s home to find out about life through the ages here. Then pop into the workshop next door before enjoying a hot drink and delicious Icelandic cake.
