Caribbean Cacao Experience
Your journey begins with a one hour air-conditioned coach journey to the Hone Creek District of Cahuita National Park.
Upon arrival, you’ll walk along a path in a garden surrounded by orchids and bromeliads. You’ll discover the traditional ‘tee pee’ of the Bribrí and Cabecar Indigenous tribes, used by the ‘Chamans’ (healers) or for social acts and ceremonies for thousands of years. Travel to the beginning of the century, through an artistic reproduction, with sculptures, representing the lifestyle and history of the Afro Caribbean settlers.
Afterwards, you’ll learn the traditional methods of the chocolate making process, see how the cacao bean is harvested and prepared to create delicious chocolate and then have the opportunity to try it out for yourself.
Next, you’ll visit the ‘burrocarril’ station or better translated as ‘Donkey Rail’, an alternative and extremely creative way of transportation created by the cahuitan community.
