Visit the Bulacan Province, Manila’s northerly neighbour, and gain an insight into the country’s rich and diverse heritage.

Settle in and enjoy the scenery, as you travel north to the City of Malolos and the Barasoain Church. This historically important church was built in 1888 and is famous for its superb architecture and internal ornamentation.

In the church’s convent you’ll find the Museum of the 1899 Republic. Wandering through a series of innovative exhibits and artefact displays, you can trace the development of the Philippines from colonial outpost to independent state.

You’ll visit the Casa Real Shrine, which was the seat of power for Malolos City during the Spanish and American occupations. Today it houses the Museum of Philippine Political History. Then you can seek out the ‘miraculous’ statue of the Immaculate Conception in the neoclassical Malolos Cathedral.

You’ll also drive down Kameztisuhan Street, and see a row of ancestral houses that were the offices for the First Philippine Republic in 1898.
