Departing from the pier your drive will take in the Royal Palace and the nearby Royal Tomb, the final resting place of King George Tupou I, Tonga’s modern-day founder.
You’ll continue to Captain Cooks Landing, for a brief stop to view the plaque that commemorates the place he is believed to have landed in 1777. Here stands a banyan tree, an offspring of the original tree under which the famed navigator is thought to have rested.
Afterwards, you’ll drive east to Tongatapu, an area once referred to as Amsterdam, to Oholei Beach and Hina Cave. Refreshing seasonal tropical fruits will be served and you’ll be entertained by Tongan song and dance inside the limestone cave, which according to tradition is also known as the ‘Cave of Love’.Enjoy some time to wander along the sandy coastline or visit the many caves before the return drive to the pier.
