Panama City and New Locks
Colon, Panama

7:00 Hours
Take a drive from coast to coast along the roadway which links the Atlantic to the Pacific. The city of Old Panama was founded on 5 August, 1519, by Pedro Arias Davila. Since then, Panama has played a crucial role in expeditions and has established its vocation as a commercial maritime city. Panama also became a terminal for the only route between the two oceans and a vital communication link between Spain and its colonies in the Pacific.
The ‘Casco Antiguo’ or Colonial City was founded in 1673 as a replacement for the previous capital, which was destroyed two years earlier during Captain Henry Morgan's attack. Since that time the ‘Casco Antiguo’ has been regarded as the second city of Panama.
You’ll have a quick stop to refuel and enjoy a typical Panamanian lunch at a local café-restaurant.
Before returning to the Caribbean coast of Panama, you’ll have the chance to see the fascinating Agua Clara Locks (New Panama Canal Expansion Center). Learn more about the construction of this truly amazing canal at the Visitor Centre and perhaps see a ship passing through.
