Setting off from the port, you’ll take a drive along the windward coastline, passing through small villages such as Bacolet, St George and Pembroke, before entering the area of the Tobago Cocoa Estate, located in the oldest forest reserve in the western hemisphere.

Upon arrival, the history of the island’s cocoa industry will be explained, before taking an interesting guided walk of the Estate. Discover the varying stages of production and visit the mud oven and the Cocoa House, where the cocoa is dried. You may also have the opportunity to taste a cocoa bean and sample a cocoa tea or a piece of award winning chocolate. After your interesting visit, there will be time to browse the small shop, which sells cocoa balls, t-shirts, hats and handbags.

Afterwards, head to Fort King George. Recently refurbished to return it to its old colonial stature, Fort King George stands as a resilient monument of Tobago’s turbulent military past. It is also home to the Tobago Museum which showcases exhibits Amerindian artefacts, military relics, shells and documents from the colonial period.
