We'll work with you to make sure your cruise holiday is suitable for your needs while still being fun and relaxing.

Blind or visual impairments

From the moment you step on board, our crew will be on hand to assist you with finding your way around.

Most of our ships also have Braille cabin numbers and Braille lift buttons/audio call signs. We'll be happy to give you a short orientation tour of the ship. If you'd like to set this up, please ask at Reception and we'll make the arrangements.

We can provide the following cruise information in large print:

  • Safety and emergency drill information
  • Main restaurant and bar menus
  • Horizon daily newspaper

 

The safety and emergency drill information and the main restaurant menus are also available on board in Braille. Please ask us if you need a hand, we're here to help.

Guests requiring specific assistance, use of faculties or equipment on board or wishing to bring their own such equipment are advised to notify us in advance or as soon as the need is known. This allows us to identify any extra services that may be offered to you such as important information in an alternative format.

At the point of embarkation, should you require an orientation tour of the ship our staff will be happy to assist, please ask at Reception. Please note that our on board and excursion staff are unable to provide assistance with day to day tasks such as movement around the ship or shore, however will be happy to assist with directions if required.

If you have not yet completed a questionnaire please speak to our Customer Contact Centre on 0345 355 5111 or your travel agent, who will be able to send one to you.

Deaf or hard of hearing

Guests who are deaf or hard of hearing

We offer a hearing loop facility at Southampton cruise terminals and at the Reception desks on board. We also provide an 'infra-red' hearing support system within some of our theatres and show lounges – headsets are available from Reception.

We have a limited number of wireless visual alert systems and textphones available on board. You can use the questionnaire to request these; they're given out on a first-come, first-served basis.

Please be aware, the visual alert system will reduce surface space in your cabin. The textphone will enable us to alert you of any emergencies and any important announcements concerning your cruise. The textphone system is subject to the availability of telephone lines on board.

All of our ships are equipped with the following enhancements for guests who are Hard of Hearing:

Hearing loop

We are able to offer hearing loop facility (which requires you to move your hearing aid to the “T” position) at Southampton cruise terminals and at the Reception desks on board. In addition we also provide an ‘infra-red’ hearing support system within a large number of our theatres and show lounges - compatible headsets are available from Reception.  This system is available in the following venues:

  • Arcadia – The Palladium (all decks) and The Globe
  • Aurora – Playhouse Theatre and Curzon Theatre
  • Azura – Playhouse Theatre, Seascreen (via radio transmission), Malabar and Manhattan
  • Oceana – Footlights Theatre
  • Oriana – Theatre Royal, Chaplins Cinema and Pacific Lounge
  • Ventura – Arena Theatre, Tamarind Club and Havana
  • Britannia – Headliners Theatre, Live Lounge, Crystal Room, Studio

Should you require the use of the Infra-red system, please speak to the Production staff within the venue who can direct you to the best location in order to utilise the equipment correctly. 

Wireless visual systems & Texphones

A limited number of wireless visual alert systems and texphones are available on board.  The textphone system is subject to the availability of telephone lines on board.   The textphone will also enable us to alert you to any important announcements concerning your cruise and in the event of an emergency.

Subtitles

Our cabin TV’s do not feature subtitles however we do have a limited number of DVD players on board and a library of DVDs that contain closed captioning. If you’d like to watch a DVD in your cabin, please ask at Reception and someone will be happy to assist.

Our in-cabin emergency video offers closed captioning and British Sign Language translated version. 

Shore Excursion 

Should you wish to book a P&O Cruises organised shore excursion, we will endeavour to work with our local agents in advance of your cruise to obtain written commentary, but this may not be possible in all instances.

In-cabin televisions and closed captioning

Our in-cabin emergency video offers closed captioning and a British Sign Language translated version. However, closed captioning isn't available on satellite channels in your cabin due to the way that the satellite signal is received. We're sorry if this is disappointing.

We do have a limited number of DVD players on board and a library of DVDs that contain closed captioning. So, if you'd like to watch a DVD in your cabin, please ask at Reception and we'll do our best to make it happen.

Cognitive disabilities

We welcome guests with intellectual, cognitive and developmental disabilities on board all of our ships.

We request that guests who require the assistance of a carer at home, travel with a companion to continue this assistance on board.
