Canary Islands cruise holidays

The captivating Canary Islands are an autonomous region of Spain. The archipelago is located 100 kilometres to the west of Morocco. Most of the islands were formed by ancient volcanic activity providing them with lush forests, otherworldly landscapes and beaches of red and black sands.

On a Canary Island cruise, you should pack a regular summer holiday wardrobe; t-shirts, shorts, dresses, sunhats and sunglasses, flip-flops and water shoes. During the winter months the weather is still warm, but light layers and a light jacket would be a sensible addition. As the Canary Islands are hotspots for outdoor pursuits, a comfy pair of walking shoes is recommended too.

Visas aren’t required for the Canary Islands on stays shorter than 90 days. However you’ll need to ensure that your passport is valid for at least six months beyond the period of stay. The Canary Islands are in the same time zone as the UK, which means you can relax knowing you’ve no need to reset watches (or your body clock!).

The Canary Islands are made up of seven (lucky for some, certainly if you visit!) main islands in the Atlantic Ocean: Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro. (There are also several smaller islands and islets of the Canary Islands too.) 

If you fancy learning a bit of the lingo before your holiday swat up on Spanish - and if you want extra brownie points, it’s specifically the Canarian Spanish dialect.
