Norwegian Fjords cruise holidays

The Norwegian Fjords is an astounding landscape made of many narrow deep seas, framed by dramatic mountainous land. The Norwegian fjords were created by moving glaciers over a period of 2.5 million years – Mother Nature certainly took her time to make these marvels. 

The weather in the Norwegian Fjords can be quite changeable – the Norwegians even have a saying: “There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes.” We’d recommend planning for all weather; tops, jumpers, coats and maybe an umbrella!

During the summer, you could also bring t-shirts, shorts, jeans and perhaps a light jacket and definitely some walking shoes so that you can explore all the magical sights.

Depending on the dress code on board, you have two choices of what to pack for the evenings. Nights where the dress code is Evening Casual, you can pack your best shirts, dresses and smart, dark denim. For nights where the dress code is Black Tie, make sure to pack your best tux, suit or cocktail dress.

There are some venues on each cruise ship where dress codes don’t apply, so make sure to check your Horizon paper that’s delivered to your cabin each day to check where these are, as they vary ship by ship. For those travelling on family-friendly ships, dress codes also don’t apply to children aged 17 and under. 

Days are generally bright and long in the summertime - perfect for enjoying all of the region’s natural beauty. During the summer months the Norwegians enjoy spending as much time outdoors revitalising. Most of the snow in the mountains has melted away, so it makes hiking and cycling the terrain all the more easier. In the towns people like to relax with al fresco drinks and barbecues – you’ll find specialties of grilled fish, pork chops and potato salad. 

As we visit the Norwegian Fjords in the summer months it is highly unlikely that you’ll see the Northern Lights, but fear not, you’ve a chance to spot the mesmerising phenomenon on our winter holidays to Norway. 

Visas aren’t required for a Norway Fjords holidays with us on stays shorter than 90 days. However you’ll need to ensure that your passport is valid for at least six months beyond the period of stay.
