Travel north from Tórshavn through a dramatic undersea tunnel to the scenic island of Vágar. At Sandavágur, a well-preserved historic village, visit the distinctive red-roofed church where the Sandavágur stone, a 13th-century runestone with a runic inscription, is displayed. Continue through striking green pastures past the villages of Sørvágur and Vatnsoyrar, a new village founded in 1921 that sits alongside the large lake of Sørvagsvatn. At Bøur, thought to be one of the oldest villages in the Faroes, marvel at the chunky stone walls, turf roofs and craggy coastline battered by the sea.
