Q. Why did you choose a cruise holiday for your honeymoon?

Ellie: We wanted a holiday with the wow-factor, especially as it was our honeymoon. So a cruise holiday that ticked off multiple beautiful destinations in one go sounded pretty incredible!

Q: How was your experience with the charter flight?

Ellie: It was incredibly smooth. Seeing the friendly P&O Cruises crew at the airport was so reassuring. The bonded luggage experience was a particular highlight – once we hopped on the transfer bus, we didn’t have to worry about our bags at all. It felt so seamless we almost thought we’d done something wrong! It was also nice to be on a flight filled entirely with fellow cruisers; we were swapping stories and excitement before we’d even left the runway.

Q. Can you describe the moment you first saw Britannia docked in Barbados?

Ellie: I’m used to seeing her in Southampton, but seeing her docked in Barbados made me think, ‘How on earth did you get all the way over here?’ It’s a stunning sight against that Caribbean backdrop.

Q. P&O Cruises is known for being ‘reassuringly British.’ What were some of your favourite home-from-home comforts to have while in the middle of the Caribbean?

Ellie: The very first thing we did after boarding was head to our cabin for a proper cup of tea. You can take the Brit away from the cuppa, but you can’t take the cuppa away from the Brit! We also loved watching football in Brodie’s pub; the environment there feels so homely. Afternoon tea at Epicurean was another lovely touch that made us feel right at home.

Q. How did you celebrate your honeymoon on board?

Ellie: We really wanted to treat ourselves to make the trip extra special, so we went all out on board with speciality dining, spa access and some amazing shore experiences that we had been eyeing up for a while. If you can’t splash out on your honeymoon, then when can you?

Q. Which restaurant on Britannia would you recommend for a special dinner?

Ellie: The Glass House. The variety is fantastic, and the tapas-style nibbles are lovely. If you want to make it feel extra special, go for the wine pairings; it really elevates the meal. It’s the perfect spot for a proper sit-down dinner that still feels relaxed.

Q. What was the most romantic port you visited?

Ellie: Barbados. I think you can get swept up in the hustle and bustle of every port, with so much to see at every stop, that spending two days in Barbados gave us a moment to really take it all in and unwind together.

Q. If you had to pick one golden moment from your time on shore in the Caribbean, what would it be?

Ellie: Sipping a rum punch at Rihanna Drive in Barbados. It was just one of those perfect moments where everything felt right.

Q. Did you do a P&O Cruises shore experience or explore on your own?

Ellie: We did a bit of both! In St Kitts, we explored on our own by booking a hotel day pass. It was so relaxing to just lounge by the pool with those picture-perfect Caribbean views, ordering food as we pleased. I had the best piña colada of my life there! In St Lucia, we went on a P&O Cruises shore experience to Hotel Chocolat. It was incredible; we made our own chocolate from scratch while overlooking the Pitons, followed by a delicious chocolate-based tasting menu.

Q. How does it feel to wake up in a brand-new place every single morning without having to unpack and repack a suitcase?

Ellie: It feels like cheating! It’s so exciting because every day brings new possibilities, yet you’re ticking off multiple destinations from the total comfort of the ship. It’s the ultimate way to travel.

Q. What was the most romantic moment of your holiday?

Ellie: Waking up early the first morning and watching the sunrise over the ocean. You spend so much time thinking about your cruise holiday that we could hardly believe it when we were on board and finally sailing to our first destination.

Q. What would you say to someone who hasn’t considered a cruise as a honeymoon option?

Go for it! I can’t wait to tell my grandchildren that we spent our honeymoon exploring seven beautiful Caribbean islands. You can really make a cruise your own, too. Whether you’re looking for a getaway filled with adventure or just some quiet time to relax, it’s the kind of holiday that fits everyone.

Ellie’s quickfire tips

  • #1 tip: Mix it up! Use the official shore experiences for those bucket-list adventures like the Pitons, but don’t be afraid to find a quiet local spot to just sit back and soak in the scenery.
  • Best cocktail: An Aperol Spritz – it somehow tastes even sweeter when you’re looking at a Caribbean sunset.
  • Don’t bother packing: A hairdryer and high heels. P&O Cruises provides the hairdryer, and I spent the entire trip in sandals!
  • Best local buy: The coconut shrimp in Antigua. I still can’t stop thinking about it.
  • The trip in three words: Magical, seamless, outstanding.
